What is The Sacraments about?
The Sacraments is a study program developed by Bishop Robert Barron and is part of the Word on Fire Ministries. In a series of videos and written commentary referencing the Catechism and Scripture, Bishop Barron looks at the great Sacraments of the Church in all their theological depth, spiritual effects, and pastoral promise. The Sacraments will help you understand these channels of grace and discover the secret behind their persistence down the ages: the presence and power of the Savior himself.
Who can participate in SMP’s The Sacraments program?
The Sacraments is open to all who are seeking healing and transformation through an encounter with God.
What is the format for The Sacraments meetings?
Each session consists of a 25 to 30-minute video on the sacraments and a guided small group discussion that focuses on the content of the video; readings from Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church; and participants answers to questions that encourage them to reflect on how the grace of the sacraments can deepen and heal their relationship with God.
Is there a cost to participate in The Sacraments?
SMP’s The Sacraments program is free. Each participant will be given a copy of the study guide that contains the readings (commentary) and discussion questions for the weekly session. Participants will have the opportunity to make a free will donation to cover the cost of materials.
How long is The Sacraments program?
Each session lasts 1.5 hours (video, small group discussion), and there are six sessions which will take place during the week before Lent through the fifth week of Lent (weeks of March 3 to April 7).
When does SMP’s The Sacraments program start? End?
The Sacraments program at SMP is being offered at three different times to accommodate as many people’s schedules as possible. All sessions will be held in Newmeyer Hall.
Monday afternoons (1:30 – 3:00 pm)
Monday evenings (6:30 – 8:00pm)
Thursday evenings (7:00 – 8:30 pm)
Do I need to attend all sessions of The Sacraments program?
The Sacraments study program consists of six sessions, and we understand that participants may miss a session due to illness or prior commitment. Should you happen to miss a session we encourage you to take advantage of the program being offered at three different times and attend an alternate session. You can also use the materials provided to keep up with content that you have missed and use Flocknote to access the videos through Word on Fire’s ENGAGE platform.
