This year, in addition to our parishioners who are in Nursing Homes and shut-ins, community organizations will be contacted to provide names to be placed on the “Angel” cards which will be on the trees in all of our Church buildings. The agencies we are supporting are: Bread of Life Food Pantry, Catholic Charities, Etna Commons, Vincentian Nursing Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, Genesis, Lifeline, St. Mary’s Courtyard, and our Parish Nursing Home residents and shut-ins. The “Angel” cards will be available the weekend of November 25th and 26th and gifts must be returned by the December 16th and 17th weekend. Monetary donations will also be accepted for those of you who would rather have the Ladies of Charity purchase a gift on your behalf. If using a check please make payable to “Ladies of Charity, St. Matthew’s Parish”. Thank you for your continued support of this wonderful parish tradition. May Christ, our Hope, continue to bless you.

Altar servers assist the clergy in celebrating the Sacred Liturgy, especially the sacrifice of the Holy Mass. The various tasks of altar servers include leading liturgical processions, assisting with the Missal and the book of prayers, helping set the altar and attending to sacred vessels after communion. Altar servers also help with the candles, incense, and processional cross. In addition to liturgical service, altar serving is a wonderful way to advance in spiritual life that is centered on the Eucharist. Unlike other ministries in our Parish, altar servers are usually children. However, adolescents and young adults are strongly encouraged to participate in this ministry. Ideally, altar servers would be available to serve at two (2) Masses each month. However, if you are only able to commit to one Mass per month, don’t let that deter you from volunteering. Scheduling is flexible depending on the servers’ availability. There are additional opportunities to serve at weddings and funerals. Servers for these special occasions may be paid for their time. You attend Mass each week, why not make a difference for the Parish and offer to serve? Could God be calling you to assist with our Liturgical celebrations? If you are thinking about serving, please call Fr. Gretz or speak with one of the Altar Servers after Mass. Training and support will be provided.
After a few months of rescheduling, we will celebrate First Friday, July 7th at the 8:00 am Mass followed by a Holy Hour of Liturgy of the Hours, exposition and benediction. Please join us at Holy Spirit Church for another opportunity to spend some time with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
Our next monthly meeting will be held Monday, July 3rd starting at 8:15 pm in the All Saints Activity Building. Any man that is interested in joining is welcome to come!
